MY STORY
I didn't grow up knowing any of this. And that's exactly why I do it.

Growing up, finances were something we talked about at home way more than I would have wanted to. Not because my family enjoyed it, but because money was never enough. At some point my parents started including us kids in those conversations too, and all I could feel was helpless. I started to feel like I was the problem.

The truth was that nobody around us was financially literate. I built such a negative relationship with money that I genuinely did not think university was ever going to happen for me. I chose hospitality because I thought I could avoid numbers entirely. And then I went to university, and numbers became one of the biggest reasons I love my life today. Life is funny like that.

I spent a decade in hospitality, from ITE College West to Nanyang Polytechnic, and eventually a degree at SIT. What I loved was never the industry. It was always the people. When I moved into financial advisory, I realised I was still doing exactly that. Just with higher stakes and longer lasting impact.


THE MOMENT THAT MADE IT UNDENIABLE
In 2024, I woke up and could barely see.

No warning, no build-up. I took a Grab to the A&E alone and ended up spending two weeks in hospital with severely blurred vision. At one point I even questioned my worth as a man and as a partner. I felt like I would become a liability to the people I loved most.

What stayed with me was not the fear of losing my sight. It was realising that by the time something happens, it is often already too late. I grew up knowing that. But that was the first time I had truly felt it. And I knew that if I did not set something up, I would never have that assurance again.

The stigma around financial advisors is real. I carried it too. But I found the right people, people who never pressured me and let me grow at my own pace. Had they been different, I might not be standing here today. And I really, truly love the person I am becoming.


WHAT TO EXPECT
Education first. Always.

The goal is always the same. That we both leave understanding more than when we arrived. No jargon, no rushing, nothing I do not genuinely believe serves you. My clients say our sessions feel less like meetings with a financial advisor and more like speaking to a maths teacher. That is honestly the best thing I can hear.

I do have my own goals. But as my Chief Concierge at Conrad Centennial Singapore, Fasle, once told me: if you are good at what you do, the money will come. My goals should always be a by-product of doing right by you. If you do not believe that, come have a sit down with me. Coffee is on me.


BEYOND WORK
Same discipline, different arena.

Over the past two years I have lost 37kg and am training toward becoming a certified personal trainer. I got a slipped disc in ITE, was told I could not lift anymore, spiralled, and ballooned up to 141.4kg. It has taken a long time to work through that.

Fitness taught me the same things finance does. Results come from consistency, not intensity. The hardest part is always starting. I try to bring that same mindset into every client relationship.

  • Not at all. It is about putting aside a small amount to solve a big problem. The earlier you start, and the healthier you are when you do, the better the outcome.

  • More of a yap session than anything else. No products pushed. You will leave with more clarity than you came in with, regardless of whether we work together.

  • Never. Though I will be honest about how important hospitalisation coverage is to sort first. If that feels like pressure, I understand. Everything else is completely at your own pace.

  • Absolutely, and I would love nothing more. One of the things I hear most often is people telling me they think they have enough coverage, and then when we actually open it up together, we realise that what they thought was insurance was not quite what they imagined, or that there are gaps they never knew existed. A yearly policy review with your agent is one of the most valuable things you can do, and I am glad you are considering doing it with me.

My goal is always to recommend what is right for you, because the more you trust me, the more you will tell people about me, and that is honestly my most important goal.
